Here at RatPac Dimmers we know lighting, and we mean every type of lighting that you can think of. We know that the way you approach film lighting differs from stage lighting, and the way you light a theatre production will differ still from the way you light a concert and so on and so forth. Each lighting technique is unique, but there is one thing that they all have in common: Dimmers; and silent wireless dimmers, like those we sell and rent here at RatPac, offer distinct advantages in each and every lighting situation.
So let’s talk concert lighting… The main point of concert lighting is to draw people’s eyes to the band and keep them there. The specifics of the lighting design will of course vary depending on the band performing—the way you light a popstar, for example, will be different than the way you light a rock band. But there are two pretty standard guidelines to keep in mind when it comes to concert lighting:
- It’s all about the backlighting— Emphasized backlighting can accomplish so much; flashing backlights can double as the set, backlighting can make great graphic patterns in hazy air, not to mention all the colorful, dynamic possibilities backlighting offers.
- Big and showy is the name of the game—Concert lighting should be big and vibrant and dynamic. It should also take its shape directly from the music. The ideal candidate for a concert lighting position has an eye for detail, enjoys a spectacle and has at least a basic understanding of music and timing.
